Knowledge for Valve parts-001
There are a lot of valve parts in different materials to be used for valves, API valves, ANSI Valves, petroleum valves, including various grades of ferrous and nonferrous metals and alloys, a variety of non-metallic materials. Basically, the material selection principle is based on follows
- The pressure, temperature and properties must be suitable for valve working medium.
- The forcing situation of valve parts, and the role which taken in the valves structure must be compatible
- Better production technique for valve assembly
- Of course, the low cost if possible, but still keep the valves with good quality.
Chapter A：Main valve parts
Valve body, valve bonnet, valve gate (for gate valve) is the main parts for valve, which are exposure to media pressure, so, the raw material have to comply with the relevant pressure and temperature rating requirement.
The common material which used for valve parts are as follows
- Gray cast iron
- Malleable cast iron
- Nodular cast iron
- Acid resisting high silicon ductile cast iron
- carbon steel
- heat resisting steel
- stainless acid resistant steel
Chapter B：Valve sealing surface material
The Sealing surface is the most important surface for valve performance and operation life. Normally, the sealing surface has to be wear resistance, corrosion resistance, impact resistance, and so on. Basically, there are two kind of material which are used for valve sealing surface material.
- Soft sealing material such as rubber, plastic.
- Hard sealing material such as copper alloy (used for low pressure valve), chromium stainless steel (Used for middle, high pressure valve), and satellite (Used for high pressure resistance, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance valves etc, for example: Cameroon FC gate valve), nickel alloy (Used for corrosion resistance valves)
